Art for the Soul: Give Love on Christmas Day

It seems proper to post a Christmas song given the season.

Someday at Christmas became one of my favorite Christmas songs after a purchased the “Jackson 5 Ultimate Christmas” album a couple of years ago. The song, originally  by Stevie Wonder, is an expression of hope (the first candle of Advent) and a desire for things to be transformed into some better than this world currently has to offer. A world with equity, justice, food for all, no war, a world characterized by a Shalom that would spread throughout God’s creation. As I listen to the song, I am tempted to put that task, of seeking Shalom, outside of myself or in some grandiose arena of world peace. While I am 1) not the center of cultivating God’s Shalom and 2) limited in my ability to create world peace, the song does lead me ask, how I am I seeking wholeness in my life? And in this anticipatory season of Advent am I allowing the hope, that is realized in that small, Middle-eastern, Hebraic, baby to really transform me?

Someday at Christmas men won’t be boys
Playing with bombs like kids play with toys
One warm December our hearts will see
A world where men are free

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no wars
When we have learned what Christmas is for
When we have found what life’s really worth
There’ll be peace on earth

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas we’ll see a land
With no hungry children, no empty hand
One happy morning people will share
Our world where people care

Someday at Christmas there’ll be no tears
All men are equal and no men have fears
One shining moment, one prayer away
From our world today

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime

Someday at Christmas man will not fail
Hate will be gone and love will prevail
Someday a new world that we can start
With hope in every heart

Someday all our dreams will come to be
Someday in a world where men are free
Maybe not in time for you and me
But someday at Christmastime
Someday at Christmastime
